Members will no doubt have seen the press coverage around the approval of the Labour Relations Amendment Bill by the National Assembly earlier this week. It has caused some confusion in the market, particularly in relation to when it will come into effect and what the changes mean for "labour brokers" and their clients.
To assist you (and your clients) APSO has prepared the Labour Amendment Update (click to the document) that contains the following information:

  • Brief background on the labour law amendment process;
  • Process by which legislation is created and amended;
  • Confirmation of the approval process in National Assembly on 20 Aug;
  • What the changes will mean for "labour brokers" and their clients including clarity on the "deemed" provision and 3-month period; and
  • Link to the document, The Economic Importance of Retaining your Flexibility" that seeks to educate clients about the importance of maintaining their flexible workforces and dispelling myths about "labour brokers"

We encourage you to read this document and to share it with your employees/colleagues so that you're empowered to understand what these changes really mean for your business.

Please feel free to share this with your clients, in fact we highly recommend that you do!

APSO and CAPES will continue to work on educating the general public about our industry and these changes and will in fact be hosting a series of business breakfasts in September 2013. These breakfasts will be the ideal opportunity to learn more about what is happening in the SA economy, how to understand and take advantage of the changes to labour legislation, in particular access to flexibility and will be ideal to host your clients too!
