Welcome to hyper-personalization!

We are quickly moving in to a world of hyper-personalized talent acquisition. Gone are the days of candidates believing a mass email is personalized just because it includes their first name in the salutation. Candidates now see this type of ‘personalization’ as spam. There is nothing personal about this except for the fact the email program pulled in their first name. When you’re recruiting in mass (for example, 500 call centre reps) you can still probably get away with this type of marketing...for now.

Hyper-personalization in recruiting is when you specifically target your message and your content to a specific individual. Because the message is built for them specifically, the response rate you’ll get will be ultra-high. Imagine I sent you a video message right now via text. That message said something like, “Hey, “You” – it’s Tim at Big Company, Inc. I want to speak to you. I have this ‘specific’ position and this ‘specific’ project we think you could really help us with. You would be working 5 minutes from your house. We should really discuss this!”

90% of you would respond! We want organizations to want us for us, not organizations that want someone like us for a position that anyone like us could do. We want to go to work for our position, not any position.

Hyper-personalization in recruiting is coming and it works. It works because almost no one will do it, because

it takes work. It takes research, effort, and showing a candidate that they are the one, rather than

one of an unlimited number.
