At the recent 2011 APSO Annual General Meeting held at the National Office in Bedfordview, a new Executive Committee was elected by the members. In addition to electing a new committee, the leadership of APSO also changed.

Suraj Maharaj, MD of Kapele Appointments, stood down as APSO President.
Raj has served three terms as APSO President having first taken up the mantle in September 2008.

During his term of office, the industry has faced many challenges, not least the current debate around regulation. Under his leadership APSO has seen enormous growth and despite the tough economic times has experienced a nett growth in membership of 20%. The resources and infrastructure has also increased, allowing APSO to provide extended services to its members. This is a testiment to the great work of the entire Executive Committee and the inspirational leadership of Raj.

At the AGM, Vice President, Simon Ridge, presented Raj with a thank you gift on behalf of the members and said,
"During his tenure Raj has met the many difficult challenges facing the industry and association with diplomacy and this has resulted in an excellent public image for APSO. I believe that he was just the right man for the job."

In closing, Simon suggested that when members remember Raj as an APSO President, they would do so fondly and say "he led the organisation to success with dignity, ethics, integrity and character”.

Raj extended thanks to his Executive team and for the support he received from the APSO National Office. He said that he will remember his time as APSO President as one of great challenges but also great success and fond memories. He wished Tabea all the best as she takes up the leadership role within APSO and committed his support to her going forward. Raj will remain on the APSO Executive Committee in the GAP portfolio.

A new President is elected

Tabea Magodielo is the joint Managing Director of TPG, a recruitment company based in Pretoria. She first joined the APSO Executive Committee in 2009/10 in the role of Transformation Chair. In 2010/11 she was elected as APSO Vice President and has worked closely with Raj over the past year.

Tabea holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology and has been in the recruitment industry for over 10 years. She is passionate about working with people and believes in the intrinsic good of all human beings. Tabea is looking forward to an organisation that is truly one "for the people, by the people” where members can stand up and say, "That is my APSO”. She would like APSO to be recognised as the organisation of choice for recruitment companies and one that can make significant changes and inputs at the highest levels of government and corporate clients on behalf of its members.

Tabea will be attending the various CAPES Business Breakfasts to be held in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Cape Town at the end of the month and looks forward to meeting and engaging with the members in her new leadership role.
