SACCI survey shows business support for labour brokers

In February 2012, the South African Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SACCI) conducted a survey with its members on the current labour market conditions and the role that labour regulations play in creating jobs. Unsurprisingly, the majority of businesses surveyed, in particular companies employing less than 50 people, felt that the burdensome disciplinary process was the biggest obstacle to new employment creation. In this survey, SACCI also posed the question of its members of what type of regulatory intervention, if any, was necessary to regulate the labour broking sector. SACCI believed this was an important question to ask given the increased usage of labour brokers and the accompanying suggestion that due to the regulatory burden placed on businesses, many companies choose to outsource their flexibility.
